THE SLEEPING GIANT
by Paul J. Meyer

Every living soul on planet earth has potential – Massive, Untapped Potential!

Collectively, that’s the richest source of wealth in the entire world. Nothing ever invented, nothing ever dreamed of, produced, or multiplied a thousand times over could ever match the wealth that lies in the untapped potential of our minds and our beings!

The libraries are filled… and news articles abound… with story after story of awkward kids, young people who couldn’t pass exams in school, athletes who didn’t make the team early on. Yet some way, some how, they went on to great success!

So how did all of these people separate themselves from the “average”, the “ordinary”? They made a conscious choice and a conscious decision to do whatever they had to do to wake up the sleeping giant within. They set a goal to tap their unused potential. And with practice, dedication, and commitment, and hard work – SO CAN YOU!

Here are OUR steps you can take to wake up the sleeping giant within you. I have never seen them fail to produce!

First, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!
Believe that you do have a sleeping giant within and an untapped potential that you are unique and different and that you can develop and grow and achieve.

Second, EXPECT TO SUCCEED!
Living life with positive expectancy produces great rewards. Remember, the only limitations you will ever have are those you place on yourself.

Third, VISUALIZE YOURSELF SUCCEEDING!
Never see yourself as you are now, but only how you would be if you wake up the giant within and develop your hidden potential. Knowing each success draws you closer to the mental picture that you have of your new future, and the satisfaction that comes from accomplishing the step-by-step goals that you have set.

Fourth, PURSUE THESE NEW GOALS OF PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT WITH EMOTION!

* Get emotionally involved!
** Become passionate!
*** Get excited!
**** Become enthusiastic!
***** Feel your adrenaline pump!
****** And feel the sleeping giant awaken.

And know that you will never be the same person again!

Slow Down, Save Time, and Head in the Right Direction

We all have big changes in our lives that are more or less a second chance.
-Harrison Ford

From “How to Be Happy, Dammit: A Cynic’s Guide to Spiritual Happiness” by Karen Salmansohn:

It doesn’t matter how fast you get there, if you’re heading in the wrong direction.

So…you must slow down and see where you are going, buddy!
Though you should think instead of calling it “slowing down” it should be called “slowing up” because when you take your time, you save time.

“Slowing up” means you do not live in the past (with old habits), nor in the future (with not-so-great expectations), but here, in the moment-where the true you-and your true power-and the answers to your problems-can all be found.

You remember back to a dance class you took in your gym. The teacher showed you this complicated dance that you were expected to learn by hour’s end. You remember thinking: “Yeah, right, lady.” But then she slowed down the music-played it at a much slower tempo-so you could see the steps weren’t so mindboggling-or feetboggling. And sure enough within 60 minutes you were a regular Fred Astaire.

You know the same approach works for the complicated fancy footwork it takes to switch out of a bad relationship or a bad career. At first glance it looks like so much effort. Then when you relax you can see what the Buddhists see.the 1,000 mile journey begins with 1 step.

SHARING

You increase your joy by increasing the pure joy of others.
–Torkom Saraydarian

For we must share, if we would keep,
that blessing from above;
Ceasing to give, we cease to have;
such is the law of love.

Life is not measured by the number of breathes we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

PERSEVERANCE/PERSISTENCE

“Failure is only postponed success as long as courage “coaches” ambition. The habit of persistence is the habit of victory.”
– Herbert Kaufman

“The life that conquers is the life that moves with a steady resolution and persistence toward a predetermined goal. Those who succeed are those who have thoroughly learned the immense importance of plan in life, and the tragic brevity of time.”
– W.J. Davison

“Toughness gives you the resilience to keep pressing on, even if your determination and optimism are lagging.”
– Denis Waitley

“It takes time to build a corporate work of art. It takes time to build a life. And it takes time to develop and grow. So give yourself, your enterprise, and your family the time they deserve and the time they require.”
– Jim Rohn

CONFRONTATION

Sometimes people say unkind or thoughtless things, and when they do, it is best to be a little hard of hearing–to tune out and not snap back in anger or impatience.
-Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Never answer an angry word with an angry word. It’s the second one that makes the quarrel.
-W. A. Nance

The Root of Joy

Joy is not in things; it is in us.
-Richard Wagner

From “Gratefulness, the Heart of Prayer,” by Brother David Steindl-Rast:

Ordinary happiness depends on happenstance. Joy is that extraordinary happiness that is independent of what happens to us. Good luck can make us happy, but it cannot give us lasting joy. The root of joy is gratefulness. We tend to misunderstand the link between joy and gratefulness. We notice that joyful people are grateful and suppose that they are grateful for their joy. But the reverse is true: their joy springs from gratefulness. If one has all the good luck in the world, but takes it for granted, it will not give one joy. Yet even bad luck will give joy to those who manage to be grateful for it. We hold the key to lasting happiness in our own hands. For it is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful.
